On May 16, 2010, Father Wally Kasuboski Receives
Litterarum Humaniorum Doctor Degree from Ripon College

“Father Wally” Kasuboski has worked in service projects in Nicaragua and on Montana’s Crow and Cheyenne Indian reservations. He was actively involved in the promotion of human rights issues in the Washington Office on Latin American and lobbied for approval of the Panama Canal Treaty. He has acted as a vicar to Spanish-speaking migrant workers in the Diocese of Saginaw, Mich., worked on behalf of Latin Americans seeking refuge in America and served as the only Catholic priest in a Muslim country. In 1988, Kasuboski accepted a position as priest in the tiny village of Wacuco, Panama. There he has worked with the impoverished people in the Bayano Mission to organize a construction company with a spiritual mission that has created jobs, built churches and a hospital, maintained roads and designed water systems. In 1996, Kasuboski was recognized with the prestigious Vasco Nunez de Balboa award (the highest award given to a civilian in Panama), and in 2004, he received the Distinguished American Award, which recognizes American citizens residing in Panama who have contributed to a positive image of the United States among Panamanians. Kasuboski holds a degree in theology from the St. Francis School of Pastoral Ministry in Milwaukee and a law degree from the Antioch School of Law in Washington, D.C.
